From December to the end of March, winters are white on the Vosges peaks, with snow delighting lovers of skiing and winter sports of all kinds.
The Vosges Mountains are a vast playground in winter, with a total of 15 winter sports resorts which are mainly concentrated in the Munster Valley, Kaysersberg and around the Grand Ballon.
The closest station to La Longère des Capucines holiday cottage is Markstein. With 40 kilometres of downhill slopes, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and the Alsace plain.
Most resorts in Alsace are equipped with ski lifts only. If you are looking for a chairlift, it's at Lac Blanc that you have to surrender. Night skiing is also possible in quite a few resorts!
Extensive Nordic skiing areas also welcome cross-country skiing enthusiasts, on marked and groomed trails for classic or skating styles; the routes alternate between snow-covered pine forest paths and unobstructed views of the ridges – a real treat!

The Vosges resorts are perfect for spending family skiing holidays, The slopes are manageable in size, making it the ideal place to learn to ski with the ESF ski school, which is present throughout the Massif. There are also toboggan runs on the higher slopes!
Numerous snowshoe trails are marked on the Massif, and in season you can choose to go for a walk with mid-mountain guides to enjoy their anecdotes and knowledge of the area.
